Bank of England Base Rate remains at 0.5%. On the 7th May 2009, the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee agreed to maintain the Bank Rate paid on commercial bank reserves at 0.5%. This underlines this is as far as they want to go for now and all that needs to be done as the economy slowly refloats. Better mortgage rates will still depend on the high street lenders reducing their rates and being prepared to lend higher percentages to first time buyers. Lloyd Vine has independent access to the mortgage market and has already noticed an increase in business for 2009. We beleive the time is right to start thinking about remortgaging and/or purchasng cheaper property.
Budget 22nd April 2009 - New ISA Rules. Today the Chancellor announced a hike in the ISA limit from £7,200 to £10,200. This is welcome news. Of this limit, a maximum of £5,100 may be invested into a Cash ISA. The under 50s will have to wait until the 6th April 2010. However, If you are over 50, you can start taking advantage of the new limits from 6th October 2009. It seems that the over 50s can utilise their existing limits now and then top up their savings to the new limits in October. This is subject to the terms and conditions and their chosen investment company.

Norwich Union (NU) will be increasing its domestic property insurance premiums by an average of 10%, from mid-August 2007.
