Bank of England Base Rate remains at 0.5%. On the 3rd February 2010, the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee agreed to maintain the Bank Rate paid on commercial bank reserves at 0.5%. This seems to underline their desire to hold rates at a low level to help the economy recover, but the spectre of inflation may change their minds sooner than anticipated. Better mortgage rates will still depend on the high street lenders reducing their rates and being prepared to lend higher percentages to first time buyers. Lloyd Vine has independent access to the mortgage market and has already noticed an increase in business through 2009. Now in 2010 we believe the time is right to start thinking about remortgaging and/or purchasng property.
New ISA Rules. The ISA limit is being raised from £7,200 to £10,200. This is welcome news. Of this limit, a maximum of £5,100 may be invested into a Cash ISA. For the under 50s this will take effect from the 6th April 2010. However, If you are over 50, you can start taking advantage of the new limits now for new ISAs or by topping up this years lower investments. This is subject to the terms and conditions and the chosen investment company.
With low savings rates people are using their equity share wrappper entitlement taking advantage of low stock prices in the hope these will rise and provide higher returns than the cash ISAs can presently provide. Please contact us to discuss.
Norwich Union (NU) will be increasing its domestic property insurance premiums by an average of 10%, from mid-August 2007.
