Bank of England Base Rate REDUCED to 4.5%. On the 7th October 2008, the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee agreed to reduce the Bank Rate paid on commercial bank reserves to 4.50%. With effect from the 6th April 2008 New Individual Savings Account (ISA) rules come into being. The new rules state that each tax year you can either opt for a stocks and shares ISA to the new maximum limit of £7,200, or you can open a cash ISA up to £3,600 and another ISA making up the balance in shares. It is worth noting that if you invest up to the new limit of £3,600 in a cash ISA, the amount you can invest in a Mini Stocks & Shares ISA has effectively been reduced from £4,000 to £3,600 from the old rules.
An advantage to the new government rules is that you can also roll any previous cash ISAs forward into a new stocks and shares ISA without impacting on that years limits.
Norwich Union (NU) will be increasing its domestic property insurance premiums by an average of 10%, from mid-August 2007.
